Children

Childhood, being the foundation stage of our lives is where the roots of most of our eventual ways of living, thinking and relating with ourselves and our world, lie. Children as young as 2.5 years may have social, emotional, behavioural or developmental challenges which impact their development and childhood experiences. Issues like these may arise because of various underlying causes and have a very high probability of being left unidentified by both teachers and parents. We at SACAC Counselling believe in ‘Early Intervention’. Intervention at this stage allows an opportunity for issues to be addressed before deeper and long-lasting damage is done.

Some of the common issues we help address are:

  • Anxiety and Stress
  • Depression and Unhappiness
  • Confidence and Low Self Esteem
  • Body Image Issues
  • Bullying
  • Tantrums and Aggression
  • Difficulty in Coping at School
  • Difficulty in Adjusting to a New Culture and Environment
  • Academic Challenges
  • Interpersonal and Social Issues

Young children often do not have the skills to understand and process their emotions. Neither are they able to effectively verbalise their feelings. Hence, our team relies on Expressive Therapies (Sand, Play, Art, Movement) which engage the child at pre-cognitive levels and help overcome the barrier of language to connect with them.

We use collaborative intervention involving the child, parents and at times school, for effective therapeutic healing. Therapy sessions are conducted in a child friendly environment and with tools that enable children to work through their challenges. Our child therapists are multicultural and speak English, Japanese, French, Spanish, Hindi and Bahasa.

Teenagers

Therapy with this age group is more of a partnership wherein the therapist teams up with the teenager to foster their growing independence, help them build the requisite skills to make healthy life-choices, to understand who they are, who they want to be and how to get there.
