Practicalities

The First Step

We understand that deciding to start therapy can be a difficult decision. Once you have decided to seek support we will try and make this process as simple as possible. If you feel uncomfortable in calling or expressing your issue in writing, just drop us an email with your contact number, with a request for a senior practitioner or the Director of SACAC Counselling to call you back. We will make every effort to assign the right therapist for you.

The First Session

We recommend that you come 10 to 15 minutes early for the first session so that you have ample time to complete the formalities and sign the consent form.

Research shows it is the strength of the relationship between the therapist and client that is the best indicator of a good outcome. The very first session is more of a consultation to help you decide if the therapy will work for you and whether you are comfortable working with your assigned therapist.

It is important to note that by coming for the first session you are not committing yourself to continuing with the therapy. Additionally, if you feel that you are not comfortable and motivated with the style of the therapist, you may request for a change as there are other therapists in the practice whose style may suit you better.
